WelcomeWelcome to the Georgia Clogging Leaders Association Web Site. We hope you will stay and browse a while in order to find out who we are and what we do. If you are new to clogging, check out our Classes page to find an instructor who teaches near you. If you are already a clogger and would like to join GCLA, check out Join GCLA.
Our MissionThe Georgia Clogging Leader's Association was founded in 1988 to provide a forum for clogging instructors to gain experience teaching at workshops. Many of our members have experience teaching around the state and country at large workshops. Some of our members have been keeping their talents a secret and we are glad to provide a stage for them to share their clogging expertise with the rest of the clogging world. GCLA currently hosts two workshops a year. Even though the Georgia State Clogging Convention was cancelled for 2005 there are plans for possibly adding it back in the future. GCLA member teams host the clogging workshops in different regions of the State of Georgia each time. Our intent is to allow members to gain the knowledge and experience of putting on a workshop with no financial risk to themselves. If any of you have ever had this pleasure, you know how much work it is . . . and what an education it can be! GCLA is a great way for instructors as well as dancers to come together, share ideas, and find solutions to problems. It's a big 'ole clogging world out there and we would like to share it with you.
ActivitiesGCLA sponsors at least two clogging workshops a year, as well as a state competition and a state pageant. GCLA also publishes a quarterly newsletter, called the Clog Review, that keeps members informed of upcoming events, as well as sharing news and articles about their fellow members. GCLA sponsors the Georgia All-State Team. Members of the All-State Team are nominated by GCLA full members for showing dedication, leadership and enthusiasm as a clogger. These cloggers do not just enjoy clogging, they LIVE to clog! GCLA awards the minimum of $1000 in scholarships each year to deserving cloggers enrolled in post-secondary education. These cloggers demonstrate an enthusiasm for clogging as well as education, and are nominated by GCLA members. Click here to view and print a scholarship application. Each year, GCLA also awards the Cathy Ebersole Memorial Award to a deserving clogger. The purpose of this award is to keep Cathy Ebersole in our hearts and minds, never forgetting her or how she loved clogging and what it meant to her. Her enthusiasm extended beyond her own group, (Cripple Creek Cloggers), as she played an important role in GCLA as GCLA's first secretary and treasurer. Her hard work and dedication will be remembered in years to come.
